The Coast Is Clear
Hunting for a way to evade his looming predators on the open seabed, this ingenious octopus comes across a pair of large empty seashells. Using its tentacles it sucks and grasps the inner shells, pulling them closer to himself, until he can no longer be seen. Now fully camouflaged he uses them as a shield until the coast is clear.
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the octopus, seashell, and sand were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and textile techniques.
