Making Ripples

Making Ripples

As this Puffin flies off the jagged cliff face, he leaves his family sleeping in their hollow. Flying over the soft surface of the sea, he scours the waters below for signs of his favourite fish, the Sand Eel. Finally spotting them, he dives deep under the water and catches a couple within his beak. Now happy, he gently floats on the surface making ripples in the flat sea.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the puffin and sand eels were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and textile techniques.
