Into The Misty Dawn

Camouflaged to a tree truck covered with Ivy a Brown Long-Eared Bat looks over the beauty of the English countryside, as dawn approaches the mist rises from the woodland below. In the distance, four other Bats take their last feeds before heading to their roasts.
 
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and embroidered, the Bat, tree trunk and Ivy were achieved through quilting, appliqué, painting and embroidery. These techniques create the different textures from the soft warm fur of the Bat to the bark on the tree. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
